The University Style Guide has been placed online as a service to the KU community. It is not meant to be the final word on style but rather a series of suggestions for campus writers and editors, particularly for writing aimed at the news media.
Entries address style questions that arise frequently in writing about the university, as well as local style concerns such as building and place names and proper reference to various university entities. Many entries contain links to Web pages for those seeking further information.
In the interest of creating a concise, quick reference, we have avoided topics already well covered by AP and the dictionary; campus writers and editors are urged to consult these sources. We also have avoided trying to be writing coaches; for this, we recommend "The Elements of Style" by William Strunk and E.B. White.
